For 2021, GMC has added features and advanced technology designed to deliver maximum amounts of ability and driver confidence. That’s why this Next Generation Yukon is perfect for any weekend warrior — a premium ride matched with phenomenal capability and engineering.
POWER ON DEMAND
On looks alone, Yukon commands respect wherever it goes. Under the hood, however, you’ll find this reputation backed by a powerhouse of capability.
The available 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine (standard for Yukon Denali) with its best-in-class 420 horsepower features Dynamic Fuel Management technology that has 17 modes of cylinder deactivation that are designed to optimize engine efficiency across a broad range of driving conditions, including when towing a trailer.
The available 6.2L V8 engine also packs plenty of power to tow with 460 lb.-ft. of torque and a max trailering weight rating of 8,200 lbs†. This impressive muscle is perfect for taking the boat to the lake or hitting the open road with a camper.
When you’re ready to rediscover nature and hit the trails, capability is important but so is ground clearance.
With Yukon, GMC has engineered an advanced available suspension system capable of improved ground clearance to help keep you moving.
The available Air Ride Adaptive Suspension (late availability) provides the ability to select ride height by simply turning a dial and pushing a button. When selecting “Increased Ground Clearance” mode, Yukon is raised 1 inch. The “Maximum Ground Clearance” mode raises Yukon by 2 inches. This added height helps protect the underbody and chassis when driving on uneven surfaces and trails.
In addition, the Air Ride Adaptive System adjusts the stiffness of the suspension for a cloud-like ride even on the roughest of terrain. It also makes access to the cabin easier with an “Entry/Exit” height that lowers Yukon by 2 inches. This can be useful for loading and unloading of cargo, like camping equipment or luggage.
REFINED DRIVING EXPERIENCE
The mark of excellent vehicle capability is often measured by the confidence you feel when encountering slick, icy or off-road conditions.
That’s why the Next Generation Yukon features the available Active Response 4WD™ System (late availability), which is specially engineered to give improved grip in low-traction situations both on- and off-road.
“The all-new [available] Active Response 4WD System is a combination of technical systems, including an auto two-speed transfer case, Traction Select System, chassis controls and a new electronic limited slip differential (eLSD),” said Christine Kirbitz, vehicle performance engineer for the Next Generation Yukon. “These technologies — which grew out of performance car applications — expand the bandwidth of the premium full-size SUV to deliver a wider array of all-terrain capabilities, secure performance in adverse weather and confidence in everyday driving.”
For example, if the Traction Select System is adjusted for slick, dirt or gravel roads, the calibration of the electronic power steering, eLSD and the Magnetic Ride Control is changed. This modification will optimize Yukon’s performance to the current scenario for better handling, increased confidence and a more refined driving experience.
In addition, the Active Response 4WD System has technology capable of detecting when a wheel is slipping and sends the optimum level of torque to the wheel with the most traction. So, in situations like pulling away from a stop on an icy road and driving on dirt or gravel, power goes where you need it.
BUILT FOR ADVENTURE
If the going gets especially tough, GMC now offers the First Ever Yukon AT4† — the most off-road-capable Yukon ever.
Purpose-built for those who don’t limit themselves to the pavement, Yukon AT4 features an increased front approach angle of nearly 32 degrees to help eliminate interference when taking on steep inclines. There’s also a front skid plate to help protect the underbody when going off-road and 20-inch Goodyear® all-terrain tires to help with traction. The signature AT4 red recovery hooks† add to its muscular look.
These AT4-specific enhancements are in addition to technologies that further maximize the off-road experience. Aside from available Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and the available Active Response 4WD System, Yukon AT4 comes standard with GMC’s Traction Select System featuring Off-Road mode. Once activated, Off-Road mode helps give you improved driving dynamics on dirt, gravel and sand.
In addition, the standard 5.3L EcoTec V8 engine with its 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for smooth power delivery in a variety of driving situations. The AutoTrac® 2-speed transfer case, meanwhile, has low-range gearing to help give additional torque to climb steep obstacles.
When taking on steep downslopes, Yukon AT4 comes standard with Hill Descent Control to help provide a smooth, controlled descent without the driver needing to repeatedly push the brake pedal.
Another feature that adds to the off-road experience is the available class-leading 15-inch diagonal multicolor Head-Up Display. This customizable display projects key information about your vehicle onto the windshield, including an off-road inclinometer that shows the fore-and-aft tilt, front tire angle, and left-and-right tilt.
