Hey guys I have a 21 Tahoe RST 4x4 i modify, lift, lower & repair cars for a living along with alignments body frame & advanced driver calibrations. Please pay attention if you have already lowered your Tahoe and I’ll explain why you’re having drivability issues.
With that said stop taking your front springs and putting them on the back. I did this and it makes the truck wander on the highway yes it’s get the lowered look but this is very unsafe considering the trucks reaction to hard cornering and or braking. Everyone that’s already done this is just to proud to admit that it drives like a boat on the highway. Just do it right Belltech has adjustable shocks that utilizes factory springs for 100$ a piece we all want to see you and your family get home safe.
I’ll post some pictures of the install and part numbers for struts/knuckles alignment specs feel free to ask any questions and I’ll get back to you. 305/30/26 fits with no rubs I can also help with pre setting alignment angles before you take the truck to the alignment shop after lowering.
One more thing i’m sure everyone has noticed the front wheels sit back towards the firewall this can be fixed by adjusting the alignment cams on the lower cont arm —the farther the lower ball joint is towards the front of the vehicle the higher the caster angle will be this fixes the setback look and brings back drive ability after lowering this is a must if your install larger wheels and tires. ( Give me a few days I’ll post pics of my alignment cams clearly marked with instructions if you would like to try it yourself or just pictures to print off for reference to give your alignment guy. Unfortunately most shops will just want to do a tow set and blow ya out the door so keep that in mind.

Question for you guys who used the Belltech struts. For the front, the instructions (which I believe originally were written for a Silverado/Sierra) have the chart describing the amount of spacers/rings to use to achieve the amount of lowering. However, the charts are different for 2wd and 4wd applications. https://www.belltech.com/extras/docs/BBGC/25019-888.pdf

Considering the truck 2wd and 4wd do have different ground clearance, does the chart still apply to the Tahoe/Suburbans 2wd/4wd configurations? Im not so sure a 2WD vs 4WD GM SUV (coil spring/non Z71) are any different in ride height... so I'm debating whether I should use the 2WD chart, even though my Suburban is a 4wd.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Great question, in addition to that question, on my 4wd RST I noticed that my front driver side is 1/2 inch higher than my front passenger. Anyone else have that and if so do I take that into consideration when I decide on how to lower the front. Should one strut be at 2.5 and other at 2 to achieve the same height in the front.

22 Tahoe RST Dark Ash Metallica, 3.0L DurtyMax, 2WD

Some clean looking Tahoes on here! Just signed up for the forum myself and can't wait to lower mine! Read a lot about the spring swap and the handling issues afterwards so I avoided that idea like the plague! My aftermarket guy at the dealership said he's unaware of anything available yet due to the indy rears. I'm gonna check with him about this setup and see if he can atleast have a tech install. Have a hard time trusting a local shop with this job haha.

Hey man, I just lowered mine with the belltech struts. I did a little over 2.25 in the front and 2 in the rear. I like some rake. Anyways, what did they get your camber to? The best Belle Tire can get mine -2 degrees. Wanted to take it to a specialty shop but can't find any that can accommodate 24 unch rims.

your truck looks amazing!! The way that sits on those 26’s is tough!!! Great work man! Thanks for the lowering info! I always felt uneasy about taking the front springs off and putting them in the rear. This is great info!

I like it!! This is the route that I've been researching. Glad to see that there's some verification to what I was thinking. I do have some questions.....1) can you offer up the spacer configuration that you used (i.e., what was the total drop front and rear)? I didn't see that info, so if I missed it, my apologies. 2) I'm going with 26's, but have been thinking about adding spacers to push the wheels out a bit more. I've read that some 26's actually need the spacers to clear the caliper, but that would obviously be based on the offset. I've also heard/read about spacer issues. I had hubcentrics on my M5 (tuned to over 800hp) and never had an issue at high speeds.....and there were plenty of data points for me to choose from. ;) Granted the Tahoe is a much different car, but wondering how much space you have to beef things up a little more. 3) Any feedback on tire wear? I've been a fan of the Accelera and Ohtsu tires, but the Lionhart's look good, too. Very similar tread pattern to the Accelera (probably made by the same people). They're unidirectional, so you can rotate them accordingly. TIA!!

Nice work on these badboys! I have a 21' burban, I just ordered some 26s. But it definitely needs to be dropped. I called 4 local shops in my area (Miami, Fl) and all said there are no kits available for this vechile. Only 1 shop said there are, but only for the front but nothing for the rear. Luckily, I stumbled across this page! Honestly speaking, I don't know shit about shocks, springs, parts, fixing or nothing. I'm super lost. Can someone please guide me on what I need to order to get a clean, even/leveled drop. Idk if I need a 2/3 or 2/4 setup. But I really like the first pic of the white Tahoe rst with the 26s. That's the look I'm going for. If anyone that can help, I'd highly appreciate it. I have a 2021 suburban rst 4WD. Thanks!

Final product looks amazing. I just threw my 26s on there. Now I need to drop. So if I'm reading your post correctly. All you did was change the 4 struts and semd for an alignment. No other parts (springs, etc) correct?

Did the 26 change your ride quality? I just threw brand new 26 with 305 lionhart tires and it vibrates some. I think it's that one of the wheels isn't properly balanced. And issues with yours?

Ive just hit 30k on my odometer & I’ve been through 8 sets of tires. I track my Tahoe, drift, donuts all kinds of fun stuff. The best tires you can buy are Giovanni 305/30/26’s they balance perfectly.
Also if you’re feeling a constant shaking feeling and every little crack in the road your brakes are sticking due to water buildup in the brake system. Ive had this happen the longer you drove the rig the worse the shaking would get. Brake fluid absorbs water from the air the water creates steam inside the caliper and slowly applies the brakes not enough to cause smell but just enough to drive you crazy. Our vehicles use DOT 4 which should be changed once a year. You can open the bleeders and let it gravity bleed or you can have someone pump the petal the old school way. Keep the ignition off.

Just joined and ordering a Tahoe RST with Premium Smooth Ride. I will be lowering this on 24’s. I have done all my Tahoes before, but this will be the first of this model. I came across this thread and I appreciate all the great info, but still have some questions. I would appreciate some clarification and feedback.
Only the 4 Belltexh Struts are needed? I saw the part numbers on the original post but there was also a part number for spindles, but sounds like all that is needed are the 4 struts? Also the rear struts will work fine with the factory springs? I have read you cannot replace the factory smooth ride shocks without changing springs? Last for those that did this Belltech lowering with just the 4 struts how would you compare the ride quality to stock? Also how is the tire wear and alignment? I know tires and size wheels etc play a big part. I will be going with 24x10 on a 305/35/24.
